Summer Zen

Making the effort to break away from everyday life and focus on yourself is the best way to attempt finding a place of zen. When is the best time to make that effort, though? Summer!

Whether in school or not, summertime is often described as a time for relaxation, vacations, and trying new things. Therefore, that’s what we should do. With this focus of trying to find our place of zen to welcome the colder months with a calmer, more positive sense of self, we should make this summer a summer of self discovery.

Whether it’s trying a yoga class,  joining an intramural sports team, or finding a club that will help you rediscover a passion, make an effort to try something new.

To help you out a little bit, here’s a list of things you can do locally in the Greater Lafayette Area.

This PDF provides information about a multitude of local classes and activities that kids and adults may enjoy, including swim, tennis, and dance lessons, as well as art classes and much more. If you’re looking for a fun activity to do over the summer, there’s definitely something in there for you.

For those who love writing and literature, check out the Lafayette Writer’s Studio schedule for information about open mic nights as well as workshops. I’m definitely checking it out.

Zumba, Pilates, and Yoga, oh my! There are a ton of classes offered by the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center at Purdue University (better known as the Co-Rec.) For information about their classes over finals week and the summer semester, check out this link.

Want to start running? On October 14th there is a Purdue half marathon, and right now is the perfect time to begin training for it. If you’re a bit more advanced and ready to jump right in, here’s a list of all of the Indiana marathons.

Well, hopefully this gives you a good idea of all of the awesome things you can do this summer in Indiana. If you aren’t local, make the effort to discover some fun things you can do in your area over the summer.
